Tim Peake will be star guest at Manchester space conference
Astronaut Tim Peake will be the star attraction at a major conference about British space research and developments.
Scientists, engineers and astronomers will meet in Manchester for a three-day event celebrating Britain’s achievements in space exploration.
Hundreds of people are expected to attend the 2017 UK Space Conference at the Manchester Central exhibition venue which runs from Tuesday, May 30 to Thursday, June 1.
The International Space Station hero, who returned to earth in June last year after 185 days in space, has been announced as the main speaker at the event.
He will join influential and well-respected leading experts in the field have been confirmed as keynote speakers and panellists at the event.
Held once every two years, the flagship event brings together the entire space community.
Manchester is already home to a burgeoning astronomy and space research community, which includes Manchester University’s Jodrell Bank Observatory.
Sessions to be discussed at the event will cover how new technologies can be used to help people survive in space as well as new launching equipment, and research into human spaceflight.
Jan Woerner, ESA Director General and keynote speaker at the UK Space Conference, said: “Market changes, innovative applications, novel space missions for new services, paradigm shifts in business and technology are at the heart of our collective vision for space.
“I am looking forward to discussing how they will take shape for ESA and its Member States during the conference in Manchester.”
There will also be more than 100 exhibiting organisations, with lots of announcements from companies and organisations.
Peake will touch on his experiences in space to delve into the future of spaceflight and exploration.
The esteemed astronaut will also take part in a new event at the conference, called Discover Space, which is a series of fun and educational activities to inspire young people to pursue careers in science, engineering and technology.
Other speakers include: Simon Bond, Innovation Director of SETsquared and Andy Green, President of UKspace and co-chair of the Space Leadership Council, and Khaled Al Hashmi, Director of Space Missions, Science and Technology at the UAE Space Agency.
